Interpublic Group and The New York City Mentoring Program announce 2015 Scholarship Winners!

Tuesday, July 21, 2015

Jesus Diaz and Isis Patterson, winners of the 2015 IPG Mentoring Scholarship

This spring, the New York City Mentoring Program (NYCMP) continued its partnership with Interpublic Group (IPG) offering a $5,000 college scholarship to two of the program’s most promising mentees.  Jesus Diaz and Isis Patterson, both graduating seniors, were honored with this year’s award. Jesus has been paired with his mentor Woody Swain from American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) for three years. The pair hit it off right away and created a bond that ultimately got them recognized with an Honorable Mention award for the 2015 Department of Education’s Mentor~Mentee of the Year. Isis has also been paired with her mentor, Beth Dorfman from Financial Women’s Association, for three years.  Beth encouraged Isis to believe in herself and reach her highest potential. In her scholarship application essay, Isis wrote, “Having one on one conversations with someone who is investing their time and believes in you is something that is priceless.”

The students were honored at a special reception with senior leadership from the Interpublic Group, the New York City Department of Education, and the Fund for Public Schools, as well as the staff of the New York City Mentoring Program, their mentors, and their families. Additionally, past scholarship recipients attended to share their stories of success and celebrate this year’s winners. We even heard from the first mentee to win the IPG mentoring scholarship in 1993, Ms. Medge-Lee Noel, who had great advice for the winners as they step into their freshman year of college – a testament to the strong sense of community that lasts long after New York City Mentoring Program participants graduate from high school.

Over the past 22 years, Interpublic Group has generously contributed over $215,000 to the New York City Mentoring Program for scholarships for college-bound senior mentees.
